The it dress to make your gingham dreams come true

I am ordinarily entirely pessimistic about fashion trends. Glitzy trends come and go with head-spinning rapidity, but usually contain very little to get excited about. Low rise jeans? Fluro dresses with strange cut outs everywhere? Oversized shirts that swamp their wearer? No thank you. However, this season I’ve noticed an absolutely delightful gingham revival and I am all about it.

I love gingham. It’s a fun print that can be a lovely neutral or a bold statement, depending on the colour. It says summer, but that doesn’t stop you bringing it out for the cooler months. It’s classic, simple and always effective, like red lipstick. So when I saw gingham dresses popping up I was thrilled.

And it’s not just the fabric that’s got me going. The styles are delightful. Shirred bodices provide flattering fits with true comfort. Long floating or romantic puff sleeves are a dream, bringing interest and practicality. Swishing midi and maxi lengths add a touch of drama, as well as comfort. It’s so much easier to plonk yourself down on a picnic rug when you know you’ve got enough yardage to work with. I’m also liking the mix of necklines and I think the square can be very flattering without getting too low.

  1. […] I’m planning to make three tops, two dresses and one skirt. Some fabrics that I use for dresses will be able to translate into a top as well, which should help with the cohesiveness o the whole collection. Definitely going to find a way to showcase gingham. […]
