The final book review had to be a Georgette Heyer

Here we are folks, book 24 in our 24 in 2024 challenge. We’ve got a lovely Georgette Heyer to complete the challenge. I finished up a bit earlier this year, as I stayed on track this time. Probably not trying to read mega books like Dante helped with that! This will be the last book review on the blog, because as I wrote, I am wrapping up Waiting for Olives after three and a half years of fun.

Plot summary

Charity Girl by Georgette Heyer is one of her classic Regency romance novels. It’s light, fun, clean and just the thing for reading on the long train ride to and from work. Much like The Black Sheep, which I reviewed a while back, Charity Girl follows the crazy adventures of a committed bachelor who finds himself saddled with a girl who has run away from her cruel aunt. He must go in search of her grandfather, the only member of her family who may be able to help her. But where can he put her in the meantime, and can he accomplish his task without falling in love?

Georgette Heyer is the master of a delightful romance

I quite enjoyed ending this challenge with this fluffy, fun novel. Sometime, that’s just what you need. Especially since some of the books this year have been more complex. I found a bulk second hand sale of 18 Heyer books and snaffled them up for a song. I’m already reading my third of them! It’s great to have something fun to read on the train to and from work, or over lunch.

Don’t look for deep meaning or particularly careful plots. That’s not the point. What you will find is clean entertainment at. Her dialogue is excellent and her characters jolly good fun. The Regency setting certainly lends itself to the story, providing an escape to a past world of formality, funny sayings and potential for both love and laughs.

If you haven’t read Charity Girl, I can certainly recommend it. I would really recommend any of Heyer’s books for those looking for an enjoyable bit of fiction. And with that final book recommendation, I will leave you to your reading. I hope these book reviews have been fun to read and perhaps encouraged you to find your next great read. It’s certainly helped me to do so, and I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve head to read and write reviews over the last three years.

Happy reading, folks!
