Sitting down for a Christmas movie is delightful fun, but have you tried Christmas reading? Slower burn but equalling enjoyable. It’s especially good with a delicious drink by your side. I’ve rounded up a few of my favourite Christmas reads and a bevvy to keep the good times rolling.
Midwinter Murder by Agatha Christie with Pimms
Of course there’s an Agatha Christie on this list. A collection of fun short stories, this makes delightful reading with a touch of winter and Christmas amidst the murder. A refreshing Pimms is the perfect companion to this collection of murder. The surprising delight of cucumber matches the twists throughout the book!
Letters from Father Christmas by J. R. R. Tolkien with hot chocolate
Technically this is a children’s book. But who cares? Creative, detailed and delightful, this little book is perfect for a quarter hour of nostalgia. Make yourself a rich hot chocolate (I love this recipe) and relish the moment.
A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens with mulled wine
Full disclosure: I actually really dislike everything that Mr Dickens has ever written. Except this one. Warm yourself a spicy mulled wine and settle down to enjoy this classic Christmas tale. It isn’t long, and there’s a lot creativity and good morals in this tale. And the wine will help you deal with Tiny Tim. 😉
