Righto! Let’s become morning people

morning

Here we are, week one of the morning person challenge. I hope you’re all pumped to do some early rising with me! I’m actually feeling a bit keen for this, now that I’m not relying solely on my own steam! This week, I thought we’d start by working out what it is that’s going to motivate us to get going and looking forward to an early morning.

What is it that you dislike about mornings?

morning

First off, what is it that actually makes it hard to get up in the mornings? I should preface this by saying that if you think you’re struggling for a mental or physical health reason – go see your doctor. However, if like me, you just aren’t motivated and love the comfort of bed in the morning, let’s get started.

Why don’t you like getting up in the morning? I find that I hate feeling rushed. When bed is comfortable and I feel sleepy, why get up if it’s only to exercise, make breakfast, prepared for work. The payoff for leaving bed feels too low. That said, I enjoy weekend mornings because I feel relaxed. I have time for a leisurely pot of tea and can relax in my fluffy dressing gown for a while.

Once you’ve identified what it is you dislike, it’s time to come up with some strategies to make those better.

What would make you look forward to mornings

change your life

What would make you look forward to getting up in the morning? For me, I’m thinking of ways to make my weekday mornings feel relaxed. Instead of pushing myself to complete a to-do list of exercise, prayer and organising, I’m taking a slower approach.

I’m going to get up and make myself a cup of tea. Snuggled up in my dressing gown, I’ll let myself read a book for 15 minutes or so before doing my prayer for the day. This way, I’ll be up early, with plenty of time to get what I need to get done but still have a bit of a relax. Eventually, I’m planning to add exercise back in, but let’s see how we go. Baby steps!

Okay, I think that’s quite enough to be getting on with for all my fellow non-morning peeps. Have a bit of reflect about what you dislike about mornings and then build a simple routine that you’ll really look forward to.

What will you be looking forward to tomorrow morning?
