How to style wide leg pants three ways

I have always had a love-hate relationship with the 1930s beach pyjama look. On the one hand, it looks so very comfortable and is possibly the most feminine way to wear trousers. On the other hand, I’ve always been terrified that such a voluminous pant would make my lower half look larger and generally shapeless.

My will-I-won’t-I relationship with wide-leg pants came to an end when I purchased a black linen pair at a little shop called Upstairs in Daylesford. They were, in a word, miraculous. Legs for days, next-level comfort and a vintage-meets-modern flair.

I was also impressed by how versatile they were. Here I show you how to style these wide leg pants three ways.

1. Go all black for a killer work look

Sharpen up the soft silhouette of the linen pant with a simple black tank and pointed black heels. Throw on a bright scarf and a bold lip to create a look so stunning they won’t know you feel like you’re wearing your pjs.

2. Pair with a silk shirt for sweet vintage style

This is arguably the most feminine way to wear pants, bar none. I threw on my new favourite nude heels with a vintage silk top I found at the Chapel Street Bazaar and there you are: soft, sweet but still able to run for the train.

3. Espadrilles and stripes are always a good idea

Throw on some espadrille wedges and a striped t-shirt for a more casual look. Add a chic straw bag or sunhat and you can turn heads as you tour the farmer’s market. This is probably one of my favourite looks, as I love how put together it looks without any effort.

Hopefully this has encouraged you to give wide-leg pants a try. Which look was your favourite?
