Currently enjoying the little things

roots

Autumn is well upon us and I can start to feel the winter bite in the air. Bed is super cosy, which makes getting up early quite the challenge. Leaves are falling in earnest, with beautiful colours flushing through my neighbourhood. As I’m rushed off my feet, I thought I’d just share a little ramble with you this week about what’s currently bringing a bit of joy to life.

I’m still ploughing through Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. It’s definitely not what I was expecting, but it’s becoming a little bit of a slog. Hopefully I’ll have a review for you on that before the end of the month. Next, I’m tackling some shorter reads, with My Antonia and Huckleberry Finn. It’s nice having new books to look forward to as the days get shorter and colder.

We’re watching more than one thing at the moment. A few nights a week we tune in to The Voice, for some musical fluff. On other nights, we work through episodes of Doc Martin. We only just discovered this little gem and are very much enjoying it. Have you seen it? I love the interplay between the incredibly awkward doctor and the other characters. I firmly stand by it that the British do the best comedy. And the best period dramas. I’m also watching a bit of Grand Designs here and there. Another British classic.

Currently wearing

I finally got my turtleneck tops. I couldn’t find any ethical ones that I liked, so I caved and got two from Uniqlo. While it’s a little knock for my sustainable/ethical aims, they are wool and if they’re anything like my other woolen tops from there, they should stay the course.

I also found two lovely woolen skirts on Etsy. They were made in Australia by an Australian company, back in the day. Both are warm, swishy and I’m in love with their vintage, classy style. I’m wearing them multiple times a week at the moment. A good, warm skirt is a total saviour when winter hits and you’re trying to avoid the legging/jean slump.

Nibbling and sipping

currently

Probably too much nibbling and sipping going on right now, but when it’s cold I reach for toast and the teapot! For dinners I’m leaning into Asian flavours, with lots of creamy chicken laksa, spicy salmon and edamame bowls and fresh stir fry. Loving a cup of tea out of this lovely of a morning. I’m farewelling the warmer weather by finishing off the last of my homemade peach shrub with sparkling water.

What are you up to as winter approaches? Let me know in the comments.
