Easy ways to get the Audrey Hepburn look in your everyday style

I couldn’t possibly avoid talking about Audrey Hepburn when we’re discussing style, cliche though that might be. After all, there’s a reason everyone talks about her outfits and style.

While some of her outfits are beyond our reach (like that stunning ball gown in Sabrina), most of her outfits are very easy to recreate with the basic pieces which most of us already own. The great thing about Audrey (and probably the driving force behind her fame) is that most of her looks were simple and easy to wear everyday.

Below are some ideas for incorporating some classic style into your modern wardrobe, without going too deep into vintage, if that isn’t your thing (If it is, more power to you and can you teach me how?). If you’re here to find out how to pull some Audrey into your style, read on, darling!

Checks and kitten heels

I totally relate to Audrey’s love of kitten heels. As a tall gal myself, I like a heel that gives me the class without too many extra inches. And breezy gingham pants? Yes please! For winter you might want to go for a darker check, and you could easily throw on a sweet cardigan to warm up the sleeveless top.

Midi skirts and scarves

There’s to an outfit that’s feminine, comfortable and so fuss-free. How did no one get into skirts during lock down? I mean, grab yourself an elastic-waisted midi and it’s as comfortable as your track pants, just oodles more classy. Also, I love that you can adapt this look to pretty much any weather or occasion just by swapping out your shoes.

T-shirt

Espradrilles

Sleek monochrome

I should preface this by saying I don’t own a jumpsuit (perhaps I should?) but this look translates easily to a top and pants. This is an incredibly easy look to recreate. Simple black flats complete the look, but there’s nothing to say you couldn’t pair this look with a statement flat or heel to throw your own spin on Audrey’s classic.

Black skinny jeans

Black loafers

Warm up your sundress

This was a great way to get more wear out of your summer dress, and keep warm without having to chose pants every time. Also, it’s a sweet feminine look, with plenty of room to play with hem lengths, colours and shoes. Try adding kitten heels to pump up the glam.

Sweet spring Zephyr dress

Breton stripes are always a good idea

I love a good Breton, so this was an easy look to pull together. I also noticed for the first time that she’s wearing hooped earrings, which was a nice surprise as I wouldn’t have thought of Audrey as a hoop girl. This just shows you don’t have to stay in your lane! If you’re looking for hoops, I’m a big fan of GLDN.

It’s pretty easy to pull together some classic Audrey into your style, and these days we need it more than ever, I think. There’s something about lipstick and real shoes that focuses you in far more than Ugg boots and a t shirt. Not that I wish to throw shade on Uggs (they are #life) but dressing up is way better for my mood and motivation.

I’m looking forward to embracing more Audrey in my day to day style, but probably through skirts and dresses until I can find comfortable and attractive trousers.

  1. […] That said, I’ve struggled to figure out how best to pull together a wardrobe of such chameleon proportions. Over time I have been reducing what I own, while trying to buy versatile clothing. But I’m still a long way from having a capsule wardrobe. I often find myself staring at my clothes trying to figure out what to wear. This is especially common in winter, when it feels as if jeans and a jumper is the only outfit which is warm enough. I find I’m craving something more feminine. […]
